romantic english garden styleseed jilly welch

This garden was a jumble of old rockery, ragged lawn and tired shrubs before having a well-deserved make-over. So the brief was for lots of colour in the summer and ‘a garden I can wander up and enjoy’.

The result is a great mix of formal lawn and water feature, softened with blowsy, colourful and scented planting. Strips of box hedging hold the densely-planted sections in place, but the flowers are allowed to spill over onto the grass giving a rich, relaxed vibe.

The enlarged decked terrace and stone seating around the new pond give lots of entertaining space, and an extended outhouse is now a pottery barn! This Crouch End garden is only 6 months old and already bursting with colour and interest.
